Emaline, scans and sIBL Lighting tests with Hair-Farm
Here is a character I have been testing with over the weekend. I setup the base hair style to work well in a simple lighting environment, then I decided to test the character in richer lighting environments using smart IBL sets from http://www.hdrlabs.com
So to match the hair for these other lighting styles I created lots of dimmer lights with strong colour properties attached.
(She's missing the hair bun at the back so this is still WIP. Any suggestions or critique are most welcome.)

Great job, as always! I really like how you form bundles of hairs with styling. Though, if you add some extra hair strands that are in between bundles, the model can be more realistic. Also, on the left side of the head (right images), it appears to me that hair should be closer to the scalp.

visionmaster2: The hair was lit in a seperate composite scene using basic lights, then comped in PS with MR renders.
Thanks for the tips Cem : ) I will work on that.

Did you try and use the reflection slot for the hair? Or are the hair speculars set up manually?

Hi superrune, no this is just using specular. You can add in some specular only lights which adds some cool fake reflection highlights, it's not accurate though and can make the hair sometimes appear to wet.
