Male hair in progress

Post by Woodys3d »

I'm currently working on the hair for a male model I'm doing. That's the progress I've got till now.
I'm looking for some feedback for it and how could it be improved.

Hi Woody, great start.

Perhaps make the beard hair a little shorter and thicker, add some Kink or Spiral effects in there, as well as some very subtle mutant grey colours, so you get one or 2 greys. As well as colour variation, always use it.

Also have you used a very small 0.03 noise effect in the bump slot? set to about 10-20%. It's very effective for certain effects.

Messing around with the thickness settings for hair is good, beards are usally thicker hairs and don't taper of so much at the end.

Good start, but the tapering is the thing that ruins it for me!

Apart from the eyebrows, the beard and hair is probably this short because of it being shaved or cut down - so there shouldn't be any tapering at all on those regions :)

Thanks for the help. I've been working a bit more on it, here's the result. I've reduced a lot the hair to object shadows to see a bit better what was going on, I will worry about them once I compose the hair with the render.

Infinite, I had almost all what you suggested on, but it was probably too subtle, I think I'm always afraid of going too far with those parameters. I made them more extreme, all but the noise, wich was more or less as you suggested, but I guess it's hard to notice with this short hair. Right now, the color variation is (H:0 S:0,18 V:0,1), I never know if that's too much or too low.
I've also reworked the lenght, thickness and tapperness of the hair and beard.

Nice final image Woody, I really like some elements of this render. Well done, especially his body and hands. Some good solid use of Hair-Farm, also.
