Bond, James Bond ?

Post by Bigguns »

Hi all,

here's my latest project, intented to be ultra realist :)

It's Daniel Craig, from casino Royale, wich is my preferrer James Bond.

I will do all the hairs in Hairfarm of course :)

I also did a custom Vray Hairshader wich react more realisticly then the vray hair mtl, I found the vray hair mtl not so realistic for blond or light hair, so I did mine, wich look more real I found :P

the test n with the eyebrows is done with hair and fur.. I will redo it in hairfarm of course, just that for now I have a problem with my license of hairfarm, waiting for you Cem to fix it :)

hey thank's all :D

Took a break of it for a week..

I did started the texturing process, at least only the diffuse for now. I would say it's half way done, 50%, I need to tweak a lot more the eyes region( need to install mudbox to paint on the model.. in photoshop it's hard to place things where you want them, especially around the eyes!..) I need also to add lots of small details like black point, acnea, irritations etc. etc..

I'm struggling a bit with his true skin color and eyes color.. look different on each pics lol. And for his skin, I feel like they used some tan solution on him for Casino, to gave him a nice golden tan, but I'm not sure his true skin color is that yellow.. on other pics look more normal skin tone.. anyone knows the answer?

The lacrymal gland will be redone, it's still the old fugly one, and I added quickly a liquid around the eyes, it will be better redone too, even the eyes socket is not finished, do not fit perfectly the eyes etc, I will do that later, etc.

So my base scene is in Vray, but I did a quick convertion over Mentalray to compare with Vray and it look quite good.. but so much details wiped out cause of that crappy lightmap.. can't wait for the next sss2, it will be light mp free and layerable, so I will be able to build it as I want :P let's say 2 layers of reflection (no spec..) will have control over the reflection bump etc..

And in the light of some test render with the diffuse texture, I will have to redo a pass over sculpt for some details to come out more, etc,

By the way, antialiasing is very low on these test, ti's why the eyelash suck, and the shader on them suck too lol . I will use pt-hair in a near futur to test it out..
I will post later some Vray render.

Hey guys this thread is not dead! Craig is back ! haha

I took a needed brake of it for a while.. after having so much annoying and time lost on hair and fur pure crap in 3dsmax...(yes it was hair and fur not hair far on the older renders) I had bugs like, when rendering the hairs as geometry, the shader was not changing on the hairs..even if I changed it, and it was rendering way too much dark, a lot of problems with the shading cause of this.. and sometimes hairs disapears for no reasons.. and you can't have a predictable result with that crap.. Cannot achieve something realisitic out of it.. the hairs generation is extremely crappy.. like 10 hairs really close.. then a big hole lol.. what a P.O.S. ... ok, my frustration is out now haha.

Other problems I have, my ztl tool of craig, the latest, won't open anymore for no reason.. and I have a silly bug with Vray sss scatter group when I do something..special let's say haha but I need it for better..everything.. anyway, the latest is the less problematic of all, I will just merge in a new scene and it should be good.

SO lol, I redid all the hairs,eyebrows...anything that is hairs lol with HAIRFARM!
And now, no more problems :) Was quite hard though to get that hair cut.. I had experimented new ways of working with the hairmesh brush, adding gravity modifier abusively, with push out, with cluster, kink, etc all controlled by maps..
but at least it's better then what I got with hair and fur.. and especially on the side, I'll post a side render once it's rendered, let's say tomorrow. hairs are still not finish though and already a bit more improved then now but it's close to completion. I'll add a bit more facial hairs, finish to do final tweak on the eyebrows etc. And after the cloths, of course and some minor tweak here and there.. and I rigged the head quickly so I can turn it a bit to make it less static, etc.

so here's an update guys, hope you like it. It's not the best lighting though, 2 points lights, that create strong highlights but hey, it's to see well the hairs here so it's ok haha.

Image

and some images of comparaison with hair and fur and hairffarm etc

here's an older render with better shading on the eyeborws

Image

and here a comparaison between what I had with hair and fur,... and what I have now with hairfarm.. lol

Image

Image

but the hair and fur in dark is the one rendered as geometry, and the hairs got thinner that's also why it's less dense, so here's an other pic to show how it was in mrprime, less bad but still bad and you can see there is still holes..:

Hi all,

an other lighting, and I played with the contrast and saturation in photoshop, it was lit with a bluish tinted light...

How do you find it? I think I prefer this lighting( I flushed the hdri and added lights instead), I'm making some little change and will post an other render maybe tomorrow :)

Hi Gonsolin,

Thank you

It's really slow to render, since I have displacement, hairs ,shadow etc hairs are rendered as geometry wich is even slower, (It's about 3h and a half to 5 h for a 2k height render) but I like the result. sadly I will not share my hairs shader, it's a custom one and I spended a lot of time to develop it, but you can use the Vray one still not bad with a few tweaks.

Here's a new one
