Dawson - Scans and lots of Hair-Farm details.

Here is another set of images I made recently when testing out a scan set to 3D models pipeline.
I used Hair-Farm all over for skin fuzz, eyebrows, eyelashes, fine, stubble and short hair.
(..allot of the hair-farm details are there, they are just hard to notice
)

It's really hard to see especially light colored hairs, but they really add to the realism.
By the way, do you have an image without hair on skin (fuzz)? It could be interesting to see it next to the final image.

Do you use mentalray sss for skin? if so are you using mentalray lights and then rendering the hair in scanline and with standard lights for comping?

Will do Cem : ) on it now, the Bokeh type DOF tends to blur out allot of the cool details. I should limit it's use, it's the new Lensflare for me!
3d-dade: Yes MR for skin and lit with MR lights. Then I have a standard basic scene with simple shadowmapped lights and then I composite in PS.

Here are the renders to show off the hair in more detail (I hope) I don't really like posting naked full scale renders but think it's worth it in this case. The eyebrows could have been better but by just adding a few extra strand as a layer above give depth and parallax to the renders and they catch the light on the side shots. He also has very short stubble layer as well as skin fuzz all over.
Also the most amazing thing about Hair-Farm is the way it can interact and react with Morph layers, all I have to do is import the deformed morph mesh for an expression. Then update the Displacement mesh to match the new expression (which would have been exported from ZBrush or Mudbox) Setup a morpher modifier, morph the base mesh and Hair-Farm will react all the way up the Modifier chain. For this model I used the whole mesh cloned about 4 times for each hair type, a waste really but it was super quick to render anyway. About 2 mins a frame at 1600x1200, rendering lots and lots of fine hairs!
I use Hair-Farm on all shots like this now, it would be near impossible to do and in a timely manner with any other hair solution out there (Max's in built system would take forever to do and the results would be quite poor)
It's always these steps. Skin Fuzz, Eyelashes (Geometry), Eyebrows, Stubble/Beard (if male) and then Hair.

The eyelashes were made in Hair-Farm but converted to hair polygons to render straight in MR.

Great work Lee, and fantastic work on the model too - I like the natural looking poses. Is this from your 3D scanning service?

The skin fuzz looks fantastic, even with the DoF. It's subtle, but it makes a difference.
I'm curious about how you do that short hair or the eyebrows. Do you prefer hairbrush or hairmesh edit?

Hi Dani, Thanks : ) I prefer to use hairbrush but sometimes you can use a combination of them both with an added hairmesh edit on top to refine the shape : )
